Hello Everyone,
If you are not blogging yet, I hope this article will give you some inspiration to join the fascinating world of online communication.
World of Communication
The Internet is a world, wide open to those who want to communicate, either for personal or business reasons. The variety of communication methods on the Internet is astonishing, from email to social networks, and everything in between. One of these methods is blogging, or displaying an online, chronologic journal about a subject. A blog can be about anything, from personal daily events to a company’s updates on their products or services.
From Journals to Interactive Worlds
The word blog came from the term web log, which referred to any journal-type website that contained subsequent entries or posts. These posts often contain a variety of material, like text, photos, videos, and even audio clips. Blogs have evolved from their early days as simple journals, though, offering visitors an interactive experience that can include features like the ability to leave comments, ratings, polls, links, newsfeeds, and widgets of all shapes and sizes. So along with the basic information displayed by a blog, visitors can also enjoy a more active roll in the website, providing entertainment as well as education and communication.
Infinite Variety
Creating a blog may seem daunting, but there are many blog creator systems on the Internet that allow anyone to produce a blog, no matter what their level of understanding for Internet technology. The most widely known creators are Blogger.com and Wordpress.com, but many more exist that can provide a free, simple way for people to communicate. These creators also offer a way to add even more interactivity to their basic blog structure, allowing for the addition of external applications and software. The sky is the limit on dressing up blogs, and the blog world known as the Blogosphere offers visitors and bloggers alike an infinite variety of interactive communication.
The Catch
In this world, it seems that all good things come with a price. Blogs can provide a person, organization, or company’s audience with an entertaining way to keep in touch, keep updated, and stay educated on an endless number of subjects. There are many benefits of blogging, including ease of creation and use, interactive communication and audience research, expression of opinions, information, and marketing. The two major downsides to blogging are the time needed to keep a blog active and the effort necessary to build an appropriate audience.
Worth the Effort?
Neither of these issues is as problematic for personal blogs as they are for blogs that have commercial, educational, or even political agendas. A person creating a personal blog will often have an accessible audience in mind, consisting of specific people like friends and family. Organizational or business blogs have the obstacles of employee time spent on a given blog, and getting the blog in front of their target audience. Often the problem of finding the audience is solved by attaching the blog to an already existing company website, adding a new, hopefully interesting dimension for their visitors. Generating traffic can be a challenging, frustrating experience for any blogger, especially when coupled with blog upkeep time. The decision to blog is always a matter of weighing the benefits vs. the disadvantages involved.
Ever Expanding World
The Internet has taken a world full of separate countries and cultures and joined them into one infinite universe of thoughts, information, and ideas. The incredible variety of communication tools continues to evolve, and though blogging isn’t the newest method, the unique nature of blogging ensures that it has a solid place in the ever expanding world of the Internet.
