Hi,

I created this blog post yesterday and would be very grateful to hear if anyone has any comments, ideas or criticisms to expand the article further.

Do Businesses Have To Follow Social Networking Etiquette?

Also, would be great to know, how many of you are using social networking sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, Myspace. LinkedIn etc to promote your businesses, and what positives and negatives you have experienced so far.

Thank you

Regards

Harvey

I use twitter a lot, especially to fire out quick announcements of tournaments (time sensitive alerts)
What I have done is linked my twitter account onto numerous social sites, so when I tweet, it will automatically hit my Myspace page with 4000+ friends, facebook with 1500+ friends and so on and so forth, I think I have about 30-40 feeds/widgets posted out there, I try and grow a couple of my social media sites each month, no need with myspace as I get 4 or 5 people adding me per day as I have managed to roll the proverbial snowball down the hill. The ideal thing with my twitter account, I set up a scheduled tweet using TweetSpinner so I know I am tweeting out what I need to and on a regular basis and knowing I am getting the exposure to all the social media sites at the same time, I also send out tweets such as "Cannot decide whether to play poker or blackjack at the casinowith my free time" that gets me followers I am looking for with the keywords; poker, blackjack, casino and free
I am still a novice at this but I am seeing results come through and I am steadilyincreasing my reach.
Hi Paul

Wow, it really sounds like you are embracing Social Media in a big way. Congratulations on your results so far, 4000+ on MySpace and 1500+ on Facebook is very impressive.

I think steady is a good strategy to be honest, making “real” connections is the important thing for the long term. Communicating regularly to targeted friends, fans or followers is the key, and providing them with valuable information when they need it, will help to bring further rewards in the future.

Good luck and very well done so far.

Harvey
I currently have 3 Facebook and 3 Twitter IDs. I have a number of personal friends on both Twitter and FB that I wouldn't want to bombard with my business stuff, so I separate them out from my others. If I think they might be interested, I can always ReTweet from the business account.

My Book shop project people are embracing FB and Twitter, so we hope that they can use them to market their shop and services. They're finding it a bit strange, but they're prepared to give it a go.

Gerald
