Hi there Compila,
thanks very much indeed! That answers my question perfectly.:-D
Cheers
Les
Hi Lesley,
Updating your existing website should not cause you too many problems, especially if the actual content is very similar. THe design does not matter, it is the content that is important.
You have to be careful if you change the content dramatically, to make sure the new site is still optimised for the keyword(s) you are ranking for.
We hope this helps.

Hi all, I have been building my website from a basic few pages set up for me by a friend 10 years ago. I have always used the same, even older Dreamweaver 4. I have been purchasing and keeping upgraded with the Serif WebPlus web building program, trying to learn to build a new website. I know only what I basically need to know and the rest I am slowly picking up, in other words, I don't know much at all.
My concern is, (please excuse the dumb question) once I have built a new website, can I simply upload it in place of the other one, without losing any points as I call them. I have had a presence on the web with other very small website since the dawn of time so I manage to keep up therew somehow without doing too much. Unbelivable that old Dreamweaver still loads up and works (with a few odd funnies) on my latest laptop with Windows7 but I don't think it will go on forever and the serif programs are SO easy and modern.
Many thanks
Les
Thanks Harvey, that is useful information regarding WordPress because I shall waste no more time looking into that option. However, my version of DreamWeaver really is old as it is MX that has been out about 10 years I think! I've tried loading it onto my husband's laptop that is Windows 7 and the disc will not autorun so I searched on the disc to look for the .exe file and so far can only find the autorun as an .exe in notepad but it will not run for me! Anyway I will persevere and if all else fails will just have to invest in a newer version.
Bye for now
Sheila
Hi Shelia
I hope you are well.
Firstly there is no reason why your current version of Dreamweaver will not work on W7, so I would not worry about that if I were you.
Dreamweaver and WordPress are completely seperate animals really when it comes to web design. DreamWeaver gives you the flexibility of creating a website from scratch, exactly how you want it to be designed. Whereas with WordPress unless you are very experienced with programming you would have to buy or use free site templates.
Templates are not really an issue as there are now thousands of programmers designing and selling WordPress templates. We advocate WordPress, simply becasue it appears Google loves it, and can help with SEO work immensely.
I hope this helps.

Harvey
I have been happy using Dreamweaver as the basis for design and uploading to Compila. I bought myself the CSS missing manual and have been very slowly working my way through this and adding .css pages to my site. It has been a very slow progress due to time restraints. My old XP PC that has Dreamweaver installed is away for repair so I am now thinking that maybe it is time to upgrade. If I do this then my old Dreamweaver software will probably not be compatible with W7 so I am now looking to see what alternatives I could use. I see from last year's comments that the Compila team have a lot of good things to say about Wordpress. Do you all still feel the same?
Kind regards
Sheila
