I have now successfully ran my
Online Poker Forum for almost four years and having started with very little knowledge of html as well as SEO techniques have managed to get a very viable position in search engines for a lot of key terms as well as drive traffic to the site, I owe a lot of my success to the support provided by Compila who have always been there when something has gone "wrong" (Usually due to an error on my part) When Compila Exchange came along offering me free advice on how to check my website for errors, validation tips, and smart SEO, my business has come even further in leaps and bounds. The market I am involved in, Online Gambling, is probably one of the most competitive and with all the extra help I feel I have a really good edge on most of my competition. I have been awarded the GPWA and CAP seals of approval, both a most prestigious badge of honour which webmasters must adhere to white hat marketing as well as upholding an honest and trustworthy approach to promotion. I am also currently under review for an ECOGRA award which I am hoping will be given to me in the next couple of weeks.I am also proud to be ranked 61 in the world for online poker forums by iGaming, all in all, after a lot of hard work, second to none support I am very proud at where FurnessPoker is on the World Wide Web. If you are new and have started a website here are a few tips that maybe useful.
Be Consistent, whether it be promoting, blogging or just updating your site, personally I have a seven day planner and on each day I have a particular task/s that need to be done, for instance, Sunday is the day I promote to all the search engines, send out email to members for Mondays game reminder, Monday, I promote on social media. Tuesday is for checking content also any validation and SEO tightening on the site, and so on, if you work to a routine then you will find that you get things done a lot quicker and work a lot smarter
Be Teachable, I meet a lot of people in the same business as myself, whether through online contact or conferences and conventions, it amazes me how many people complain about their business not being where they want it to be and in the same breath telling me how good they are at everything. As in most things there is a learning curve, If you are willing to learn then you can grow your business, there are plenty of free information available on the Compila Exchange that can help boost your site, and if you can't find what you need to know just ask.
Don't Give Up, There have been many times where I have just felt I have been banging my head against the wall (And probably many times to come) However I am not a quitter, someone once said to me, "The ONLY way to fail is to give up" This phrase stuck with me, however I will say this, if your trying to catch the moon with your hands, it just aint going to happen and that leads me to my final piece of advice.
Set Realistic Goals. If you do not set goals then you really do not have any direction, also on the same point you must set realistic goals as well as a plan of how to achieve them, there is no point saying "I want 1 million Visitors a month" unless you have the knowledge of what you need to do to achieve this. So with your goals, be realistic, also again this ties in with being teachable, associate with people who are already successful in your field, believe or not most successful people are willing to share their "Secrets of Success" When setting your realistic goals try and put them in three categories, short term, medium term and long term, your short term goals should be maybe a month down the road, medium term goals could be six months and long term goals of one year plus.
I hope this helps new people and please feel free to add your own advice, tips and comments so other people can benefit
Peace Out
Paul
